Time Trial Give Signs for a Great Season
CERRITOS,CA - A total of six age group records were set on the day as the Dons displayed the quality of athletes that will be apart of the team in 2010. The girls, missing three potential scorers, would have easily set the overall team record with two of those athletes in place while the boys found new talent amongst their ranks which will help them fill the gaps of seniors who have graduated.
In a thrilling finish for second, the boys juniors, seniors, and freshmen battled for supremecy. The boys juniors took the lead with their #1 scorer (Shen), while the freshmen were able to tie it up after two scorers (Quarles, Lee). The depth of the seniors had their seniors within three scorers of each other, however, the difference came between the #3 scorers of the juniors (Huang) and freshmen (Caliz) who were separated by just two seconds. The two point swing kept the juniors in the lead for a second place finish. The alumni smashed through as expected with a 1-3-5 finish behind the trio of To-Poblete-Juarez. The sophomores finished with the top individual non-alumni time in 11:09 (Tilve). The senior girls cleared the way with an eight point 1-2-5 finish (Flores-Sunio-Tai), however things could have gotten a bit more interesting without the absence of scorers for both the sophomore and junior girls. The sophomore girls took second place honors with three girls in the top seven (Resultay-Park-Christopher) over the juniors who had two in the top eight (Lee-Muralidharan). The top finisher for the freshman girls was in eleventh (Pleasant) with a sub-16 finish. The overall team times was the second fastest for the girls at 13:26 for the top five and fourth for the boys with an average of 11:44. The Dons now will look toward working to improve on these times. |
